GamerLegion came in ranked 18th in VRS (February 2 standings), which made them one of the stronger sides in the field. They delivered. illwill's run to the final was the more unexpected story - BC Game, 22nd in VRS heading into the event, fell to them in the group stage.
Group stage
GamerLegion opened Group A with a 16-12 win over Avanti on Ancient, then lost their only match of the event - a 16-19 overtime on Mirage against SINNERS. They won their next three (ECSTATIC, Phantom, MINLATE) to finish 4-1. The last of those, a 13-5 on Nuke against MINLATE, was their most comfortable group win.
Playoffs
Their 2-0 over Sashi included a 13-1 on Overpass - the most lopsided map of the tournament. A second 2-0, over illwill (Anubis 13-10, Mirage 13-7), put them into the upper bracket final.
Rematch with SINNERS
GamerLegion had dropped their only match to SINNERS in the group stage. In the upper bracket final, they took Nuke 13-7 and then survived overtime on Inferno, winning 16-14 to book the grand final.
Grand final
illwill had worked through the lower bracket after losses to both GamerLegion and SINNERS, but met the same result in the final. GamerLegion won 2-0 again - Nuke 13-7, Mirage 13-6 - finishing the tournament without losing a series.
